Defending the Nation, Growing the Economy

In March 2026, the Alex Ferry Foundation published ‘Defending the Nation, Growing the Economy’, a report produced by Industrial Paradigm. This report made the case for the government’s promised future increase in defence spending to be used in such a way that it creates good, skilled jobs in industrial communities. The report was endorsed by the four unions – Unite, GMB, Prospect and Community – that form the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions.

Engaging with Labour’s Treasury Team – Workshop

In April 2025, Industrial Paradigm ran a workshop for the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA). Environmental horticulture and landscaping contributed £38bn to GDP and supported 722,000 UK jobs in 2023 (Source: Oxford Economics). Yet horticulture is not one of the priority sectors set out in the Government’s industrial strategy. This workshop, led by Tim Page, working with HTA’s Director of Public Affairs, Jennifer Pheasey (pictured below), explored key messages and avenues for engaging with Labour’s economic policy-making process.

Steel Reforged: Strong Foundations for a Sustainable Economy

In March 2025, the Community trade union launched the report ‘Steel Reforged: Strong Foundations for a Sustainable Economy’, produced by Industrial Paradigm. This report included new evidence gained through interviews with MPs representing steel communities, including Stephen Kinnock MP, Sir Nic Dakin MP and Jessica Morden MP, as well as employer representatives and steel workers themselves. ‘Steel Reforged’ also included testimonies from steelworkers at British Steel’s Scunthorpe plant.

Engaging with Labour’s Youth Policy – Keynote Presentation

In February 2025, Tim Page of Industrial Paradigm gave a keynote presentation to trustees of Berkshire Youth, a sub-regional charity supporting young people. This was designed to explore the Government’s policies for young people and to identify key areas of engagement and influence.

An Industrial Strategy for Europe

Throughout the summer of 2024, Industrial Paradigm worked with the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) to develop an industrial policy for Europe. This work was framed by a discussion which took place at a seminar organised by the European Trade Union Institute in June 2024, addressed by Tim Page.
